Gender Inequality in Education in Pakistan

What is happening?

Almost 77 million children worldwide are deprived of their right to an education. Girls make up 56 percent of these children. In underdeveloped countries, like Pakistan, women are not equals. More specifically in education. Two thirds of the 5.6 million children not attending school are girls.According to UNESCO, for every 10 boys there are only eight girls in class, and the poorest girls are the most disadvantaged.Due to customs, culture and tradition, girls are not allowed to go to school to stay home and take care of the house, while the boys got to go to school and work.62.3% of girls attend primary school but only 28.9% attend secondary schoool. The right to equality is important to advocate because girl’s should have the right to equal education. These women are not seen as equals to men, so they are deprived of an education. Although some people think girls should go to school, most still think that they should end up staying at home. However, many girls are still willing to get an education to better their lives and their family’s lives. Unfortunately, the girls who are enrolled do not attend on a regular basis. This can be due to sexual discrimination, marriage, pregnancy and physical and/or mental abuse.A large part of the Pakistani society is not welcoming to girls who seek an education.

These graphs demonstrate how boys have a greater chance of having an education,no matter the region they are in. Girls make up a greater percentage of the children not attending school.
