As a young girl, Malala Yousafzai was an advocate for girl’s education. She grew up around education because her father,Ziauddin Yousafzai, was a principal. This is rare in Pakistan because girls are not expected to have an education. It is not seen as a necessity. She started an anonymous blog that expressed her views on education and the pressure of the Taliban. The Taliban had extreme control over the women and prohibited them from getting an education.A result of her stand for girl’s education, the Taliban sent her a death threat. On October 9, 2012, the Taliban shot her in the face when she was on her way to school. This did not hinder Malala’s need for change. This only made her grow, resulting in her growth in advocacy for girl’s education. After her hospital discharge from Birmingham, UK, she took her campaign global. She travels around the world spreading the word that girl's deserve to have the right to education and not have that taken from them.
On her 18th birthday, Malala founded a high school for Syrian refugee girls. The school will help 200 girls, ages 14-18.
Her non-profit organization, The Malala Fund, campaigned the hashtags #strongerthan and #booksnotbullets, to promote education for all. It campaigned against violence and promoted the education needed for all. The organization also invests in other local and national nonprofit organizations in order to provide quality education to communities.
